Wendelien van Oldenborgh to represent the Netherlands at the next Venice Biennale

The Mondriaan Fonds has announced that Wendelien van Oldenborgh will be representing the Netherlands at the 57th Venice Biennale. Residing and working in Rotterdam, Wendelien van Oldenborgh has been selected for her artistic project named “Cinema Olanda”, comprising three films that explore different facets of the Dutch postcolonial past, and the impact of this past on today’s society and on contemporary Dutch identity. The artist’s work reflects on current political issues. The exhibition will be curated by Lucy Cotter and will be held in the Rietveld Pavilion. The selection committee for the Dutch pavilion comprised of Lorenzo Benedetti, Nathalie Hartjes, Aernout Mik, Mirjam Westen and Brigit Donker, chairperson of the jury (and director of the Mondriaan Fonds). Wendelien van Oldenborgh at Wilfried Lentz Rotterdam

Until 15 November 2015, Wilfried Lentz Rotterdam gallery is hosting an exhibition by the Dutch artist Wendelien van Oldenborgh, laureate of the Dr. A.H. Heinekenprize of the Arts, entitled “Footnotes to Beauty and the Right to the Ugly”. The exhibition comprises a series of films showing van Oldenborgh’s research into Dutch social structures, exploring the seemingly opposing nature of the ideals from the 1970s in relation to the current climate in Holland. It features two short films, a double projection, drawings and a large scale wall print. The work functions also as a performative enactment of the issues it addresses; it is thus a continuation of the artist’s interest in filmmaking as a performative device. Wendelien van Oldenborgh’s work explores social relations using the medium of film; she exhibited at the 54th Venice Biennial in 2011, and has also had a solo exhibition in 2010 at Van Abbemusem in Eindhoven....
