Tony Oursler at the Galeria Leme

São Paulo, 18 September 2013, Art Media Agency (AMA). Tony Oursler is exhibiting his multimedia works at the Galeria Leme from 19 October to 16 November 2013. The solo exhibition is offering the most important drawings and performance installations of Oursler’s career. The American artist is known for his innovative way of combining performance, video and sculpture. He focuses on human relations and mass media. By looking at, for example, the Japanese children who feed animals over the internet, the artist looks to understand how an empathetic link can be developed and evolve within a digital space. The artist creates humorous and grotesque characters to attract the viewer’s attention. He questions the public on the possibility of having a virtual friend, or of installing a method for people to talk to their pets. His comic drawings sometimes verge on the disturbing, because features are modified to display an evolution, in caricature form, of the potential future of digital...

Tony Oursler at Padiglione d’arte Contemporanea

Milan, 20 May 2011, Art Media Agency (AMA). The Padiglione d’arte Contemporanea, a contemporary art pavilion, is dedicating a MiArt exhibition to Tony Oursler until 12 June 2011. MiArt 2011 is an international modern and contemporary art fair that took place from 8 to 11 Avril.  The sixteenth edition of the fair took a completely new direction.  As a result of the financial crisis, the organisers decided to focus on the Italian market and host a large number of Italian galleries.  It was also decided to reduce the number of exhibitors to one hundred.  To qualify for the art fair, galleries had to present works of extremely high quality, have minimum international visibility and represent foreign artists. Milan is the melting pot of Italian art.  As the State remains unconvinced of the economic potential that this art market represents, the directors decided that it was necessary to be original. Each year, the Padiglione d’arte Contemporanea organises an exhibition of internationally renowned contemporary artists.  The exhibition coincides with MiArt.  The PAC has been active since the early 1950’s and the sixteenth edition of the fair will host a series of important works by Tony Ourlser for the first time.  The exhibition will consist of installations, videos, drawings, sculpture-screens and small sculptures. Tony Oursler is an American artist who was born in New York in 1957.  He works with a range of media but specializes in video art and installations.  His works are included in some of the largest public collections in the world, such as the Whitney Museum of Art, the Centre Pompidou and the Carnegie Museum of Art.  His art focuses on what is literally human, as opposed to what is not.  Oursler projects videos of body parts on surfaces, creating the impression of uncertain or lost...
