Tanya Habjouqa’s “Occupied Pleasures”

East Wing is to dedicate an exhibition to Tanya Habjouqa, entitled “Occupied Pleasures”. It is to take place from 20 May to 10 July in its gallery space in Dubai, and is to be curated by Lars Willumeit. Through her photographs — taken between 2011 and 2014 — Tanya Habjouqa depicts the small, poignant pleasures of daily life in Jordan. In creating a humour-dappled narrative, she provides a contrast with reportage depictions of the lives of those living under violent political and economic conditions in Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Tanya Habjouqa was born in Jordan. Her photographs are recognised for telling stories which focus on gender, social issues, and the rights of those living in the Middle-East with humour, detail and sensitivity.
