Collector Jeffrey Gundlach donates $42.5 million to the Albright-Knox Gallery

The Albright-Knox Gallery in Buffalo has revealed that a $42.5 million donation was made to it by billionaire collector Jeffrey Gundlach, whose fortune is estimated at around $1.66 billion. The museum is therefore changing names and becoming the Buffalo Albright-Knox-Gundlach Art Museum. This windfall will go towards the museum’s extension project, entrusted to architect Shohei Shigematsu, from Rem Koolhaas’ architectural firm OMA. The firm recently designed the scenography for the exhibition “Manus x Machina” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and for US artist Taryn Simon’s performance at the Park Avenue Armory in New York. TEFAF New York on the starting blocks

The TEFAF New York is set to open from 21 to 26 October at the Park Avenue Armory. It will be welcoming 93 leading dealers from the fine-arts, design, furniture and jewellery markets, from antiquity to the 20th century. The fair’s scenography is in the hands of the Tom Postma Design firm. Marina Abramovic on sick leave

On November 19, 2015, the patrons of Park Avenue Armory in New York, postponed a dinner which was to be attended by the famous performance artist Marina Abramovic, who is absent due to serious health problems. According to Rebecca Robertson, president of Park Avenue Armory, the artist was hospitalized urgently. The hospital, however, has not been mentioned by the press service of PR Park Avenue Armory and was flatly contradicted by the gallerist Sean Kelly, who represents Marina Abramovic. According to him, the artist suffers from blood pressure problems due to her frequent trips. But no hospitalization would have been necessary: the artist is currently resting at home where she is gradually recovering. Marina Abramovic’s autobiographical performance in NYC

New York, 11 December 2013, Art Media Agency (AMA). The Park Avenue Armory in New York is presenting a performance by Marina Abramovic entitled The Life and Death of Marina Abramovic, directed by Robert Wilson, until 21 December 2013. The exceptional three-hour long production portrays Marina Abramovic’s life, from her childhood in Serbia to her work as a performance artist. The show is performed by Willem Dafoe, Antony Hegarty (of band Antony & The Johnsons), and the artist herself. Abramovic plays the role of herself and that of her mother, who was the director of the Museum of the Revolution and Art in Belgrade in the 1960s, and purchased artworks for public institutions in the former communist state of Yugoslavia. The ADAA Art Show celebrates 25 years

New York, 4 February 2013, Art Media Agency (AMA). The 25th annual ADAA (Art Dealers Association of America) Art Show, the United States’ longest running fine art fair, is to be held 6 March through 10 March 2013 at the Park Avenue Armory. Henry Street Settlement is to benefit from all ticket proceeds. Henry Street Settlement was founded in 1893 and is a social service agency that mostly provides art and health care programmes to over 50,000 New Yorkers each year. The 2013 edition of the Art Show is to emphasise its usual focus on paintings, prints, photographs, drawings and sculpture through unprecedented solo shows by artists such as Milton Avery, Jannis Kounellis, Zarina Hasmi, Tacita Dean. A Gala Preview is scheduled on 5 March.
