Until 15 April, Modern Art Museum: Gebre Kristos Desta Center, at Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia, is to host an exhibition of the works of Olafur Eliasson, entitled “በጊዜ ላይ ጊዜ [Time-sensitive activity]”. For the Danish-Icelandic artist’s first solo exhibition in Africa, the museum is to display works that deal with themes such as light, orientation, mirroring, and ephemerality. Other works to be featured at the exhibition are: Life of a planet; Crystal nebula; Addis compass; The complete sphere lamp; Colour space embracer; and Yellow corridor. The exhibition was organised due to Olafur Eliasson’s long-term interest in Ethiopia and, in particular, his connection with the Alle School of Fine Arts and Design at Addis Ababa University....

Ed Ruscha exhibition in Fort Worth

Fort Worth, 17 January 2011. AMA. The Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth is featuring artist Ed Ruscha in “Ed Ruscha: Road Tested”. During his 1956 road trip, from Oklahoma City to Los Angeles, the artist took pictures of what he saw along the roads in the western USA. About seventy-five shots tracing Ruscha’s career are being displayed at the exhibition, including key images inspired by his love of driving. The exhibition is directed by chief curator Michael Auping and comprises several famous books by the artist, such as Twenty-Six Gasoline Stations, Real Estate Opportunities, Some Los Angeles Apartments, Thirty-Four Parking Lots and the innovative Every Building on the Sunset Strip. The multimedia exhibition also includes some iconic paintings by Ruscha, such as Standard Stations and Hollywood Signs, named after streets and road signs. His exploration of Los Angeles’ topography is depicted in paintings of aerial views of the city and shots of Californian sunsets. “Ed Ruscha: Road Tested” will examine Rusch’s fascination with cars via paintings, photos, drawings and the rarely screened film Miracle, which recounts the life of a mechanics. According to Auping, Ruscha’s work has always been associated with travels, but this is the first time a solo exhibition dedicated to his road photos is being hosted. The exhibition will be running from 23 January to 17 April...
