Ryan Gander at Manchester Art Gallery

“Make every show like it’s your last” , the solo exhibition by British conceptual artist, Ryan Gander, is currently on display at Manchester Art Gallery until 14 September 2014.  The exhibition focuses upon two recent themes in Gander’s practice, ‘Imagineering’ and the ‘Culturefield’, whilst the pieces explore the relationships between author, work and viewer. This show sees the artist return to the city where he first studied art and his relationship with Manchester is depicted in his works that have been created specifically created for this exhibition. The exhibition coincides with the unveiling of a new public artwork by Gander entitled Dad’s Halo Effect. The three stainless steel sculptures representing chess pieces in checkmate position are to be installed in Beswick community hub regeneration project in East Manchester in September 2014.  After finishing in Manchester “Make every show like it’s your last” will travel to: Centre for Contemporary Art, Derry, Northern Ireland (forthcoming in October); Aspen Art Museum, USA; Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver, Canada; MAC, Montreal,...

Joana Vasconcelos at Manchester Art Gallery

Manchester, 19 February 2014, Art Media Agency (AMA). Manchester Art Gallery is holding a solo exhibition of Joana Vasconcelos’ work, entitled “Time Machine”, until 1 June 2014. “Time Machine” is to present a selection of more than twenty of the artist’s sculptures, several of which are recent works never before exhibited in the UK. Her large-scale sculptures of vehicles, such as Lilicoptère (2012), War Games (2011) and www.fatimashop (2002), are to be on display in the museum. The exhibition also promises to showcase an innovative new work created specifically for the gallery, entitled Britannia (2014). Joana Vasconcelos is a Portuguese artist, born in 1971.
