“Li Mu”

Li Mu at the Van Abbemuseum

The Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven, The Netherlands is currently hosting an exhibition of the work of Chinese artist Li Mu, entitled “A Man, A Village, A Museum”. It opened on 9 September 2015 and will run until 10 January 2016. The exhibition consists of a video installation and book (A Man, A Village, A Museum) in which Mu presents the inhabitants of his hometown of Quizhuang in rural China with reproductions of many of the famous artworks in the collection at the Van Abbemuseum. He, along with the help of some of the villagers, reproduced artworks by, amongst others, Sol LeWitt, Dan Flavin, Andy Warhol and John Körmeling and exhibiting them in the streets and homes of the village.  The film and the book follow this project that took Mu over a year to complete, whilst also documenting the lives and stories of the villagers themselves. “A Man, A Village, A Museum” is on show on the second floor of the new building of the Van Abbemuseum as part of the collection exhibition “The Collection...
