James Richards to represent Wales at the 57th Venice Biennale

Welsh artist James Richards has been selected to represent his country at the 57th Venice Biennale. The news was announced by the Art Council of Wales. James Richards creates installations from videos, sounds and images borrowed from other artists or from archives, producing lively immersive spaces. He lives and works in Berlin. During the 2013 Venice Biennale, one of his works was shown at the Encyclopaedic Palace curated by Massimiliano Gioni. In 2012, James Richards won the Jarman Award, a prize recognising a video work, and he was also nominated for the Turner Prize in 2014. The artist declares that he is “surprised” and “excited” by the news, while also impatient to start working on a new work for the event. Park Nights at London’s Serpentine

London, 6 August 2013, Art Media Agency (AMA). London’s Serpentine Gallery has announced the details of the forthcoming projects at Park Nights 2013, an annual series of music, theatre, performances, talks and film screenings, presented at Sou Fujimoto’s Serpentine Gallery Pavillion 2013. The programme opened on 26 July with a conversation between psychoanalyst Adam Phillips, and the Director of the New York Public Library’s Public Programmes, Paul Holdengräber. Subsequent events are to include performances by multidisciplinary artists Russell Haswell and Yasunao Tone, on 6 September, in an evening curated by Haswell; a site-specific performance by artist George Henry Longly, on 20 September; and a screening of film works by Leslie Thornton, accompanied by a conversation with artist James Richards, on 27 September.
