Exceptional 20th century jewellery auction at Christie’s

Geneva, 26 October 2011, Art Media Agency (AMA). Christie’s announces the sale of  important Jewels from the collection of a European Family on 16 November in Geneva. The collection includes 67 jewellery pieces skilfully and passionately gathered in the mid 20th century.  The pieces are signed by prestigious jewellers such as Cartier, Boucheron, Mauboussin, Tiffany & Co, Ostertag, Van Cleef & Arpels, as well as Harry Winston. Head of the Geneva Jewellery Department, Jean-Marc Lunel stated: “During my entire career I have never been asked to sell a group of jewels of such variety and outstanding beauty. I feel privileged that the vendors have entrusted Christie’s with the sale of these extraordinary pieces which will, no doubt, be among the very highlights of this auction season in Geneva. Unquestionable quality is behind every piece, each of them is a work of art in its own right”. The collection spanning from the early 1900s until this day, includes the major periods as well as the remarkable styles of 20th century. It represents every type of jewellery and stones. Thus, a diamond necklace by Harry Winston, dated 1964, is estimated at $1.5 – 2.5 m. A set of rubies and diamonds by Cartier is estimated between $800,000 – $1.2 m. A Van Cleef & Arpels brooch, decorated with rubies and diamonds, is estimated over $500,000.
