Twin Fragonard pieces to be reunited at Toledo Museum of Art

Toledo (Ohio), 6 January 2014, Art Media Agency (AMA). From 24 January to 4 May 2014, the Toledo Museum of Art is to present “Love & Play: A Pair of Paintings by Fragonard”. Blind-Man’s Buff, from the Toledo Museum of Art, and The See-Saw, from the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum of Madrid, are to be shown together for the first time in 25 years. These twin pieces remained together from their creation in the 1750s until they first appeared on the market in 1954. They were reunited during temporary exhibitions in London in 1968, Paris in 1987 and New York in 1988. Jean-Honoré Fragonard (1732-1806) was born in Grasse, France, to an Italian family who later moved to Paris in 1738. He was a student of Chardin, then of de Boucher, who greatly influenced his work. Portrait by Fragonard sells for $27.9 million at Bonhams in aid of UNICEF

London, 6 December 2013, Art Media Agency (AMA). A portrait by Fragonard has sold for $27.9 million in London at auction house Bonhams. The work is part of the collection of Dr. Rau, who died in 2002 and bequeathed an important section of his works to UNICEF Germany. UNICEF raised $31 million at the sale, the large majority of which came from the sale of the Fragonard painting. A Fragonard rediscovered

Dordogne, 16 June 2011, Art Media Agency (AMA). A painting by Jean Honoré Fragonard has recently been authenticated during restoration work at the Château de Hautefort in Dordogne, central France. According to restorer Claudine Pasticos, the style of the piece is typical of Fragonard. The painting is part of David-David Weill’s collection, who bought it from a Fragonard collector, as reported in French daily paper Le Parisien.
