“Executive Director”

Fiona Gasper to Direct Manchester International Festival

Fiona Gasper has been appointed as executive director for the Manchester International Festival happening in March 2016. Gasper succeeds Jim Forrester, who oversaw the festival’s 2013 and 2015 editions. Gasper arrives at the Festival after five years as director at Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre; prior to her work there, she was executive producer of Liverpool’s 2008 European Capital of Culture Program. In 2009 she was awarded a MBE for her service to the arts. Gasper said: “I am really thrilled to be joining John at MIF but have relished my time in helping to shape the Exchange into an organisation which is hugely relevant to theatre-making in all its forms in Manchester and nationally.” Conceived as a biennial event presenting original works that mixes artists from the performing and visual arts with artists from popular culture, the Festival launched in 2007 with Alex Poots and Peter Saville as co-directors. Its earliest commissions included the group show/event “Il Tempo del Postino,” organized by Hans Ulrich Obrist and Philippe...

Jeffreen M. Hayes appointed Executive Director at Threewalls

The Chicago arts non-profit organisation Threewalls has appointed art historian and curator Jeffreen M. Hayes as their executive director as of 16 October 2015. Hayes joins the organisation following the departure earlier this year of founding executive director Shannon R. Stratton, who became chief curator at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York. Hayes earned a masters in art history from Howard University, and a bachelor’s in humanities from Florida International University. Over the years, Hayes has developed a curatorial and leadership practice that invites community participation. She experienced success with this approach in Birmingham, Alabama, as the Andrew W. Mellon Post-Doctoral Curatorial Fellow at Birmingham Museum of Art from January 2012 to June 2013. During her tenure, Hayes organized performance art projects and the exhibition “Etched in Collective History” which commemorated Birmingham’s civil rights history. She also has worked for several museums and cultural institutions, including the Hampton University Museum, the Library of Congress, and the National Gallery of Art. Threewalls is a Chicago non-profit organization devoted to contemporary art practice and discussion. “Jeffreen’s breadth of experience in curating and administration, alongside her dedication to local artists and communities, makes her a great fit for Threewalls,” says Stratton, who now serves on the Threewalls Executive Board. “I am very confident in the organization’s future:  Threewalls will grow and thrive under Jeffreen’s leadership and vision. I am excited to see where she leads us and give her my full...

Antoine Guerrero appointed Executive Director of the White Box

New York, 14 May 2013, Art Media Agency (AMA). The appointment of Tony Guerrero, currently Director of Visual Arts at the FIAF (French Institute Alliance Française) New York evidences the White Box’s will to start a new and ambitious chapter. He will be on office as of July 2013, and officially in charge of exhibitions development, public programmes and international profile of the White Box. Established in 1998 in order to be the first alternative art centre in Chelsea, the White Box is an independent cultural platform and an innovative space for contemporary art at the same time. In the fashion of a laboratory, this centre proposes a non-conventional approach when it comes to exhibitions, projects, new mediums, lectures, screenings and other events. The result is an entirely new way of thinking and seeing, in total contradiction with the hypothesis of top-quality art’s being necessarily expensive. Guerrero was made knight of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from the French Republic in...
