Florence Derieux appointed as Head of American Art at the Centre Pompidou Foundation

The Centre Pompidou Foundation has appointed Florence Derieux as the Curator of American Art, where she will work alongside members of the Foundation in helping to advance the Centre. Florence Derieux is an art historian and curator and holds art history degrees from Université Paul Valéry, Montpellier, France and Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Milano, Italy. Since 2008, Ms Derieux has served as the Director of the FRAC Champagne-Ardenne in Reims. Her roles have also included curator at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, Deputy Director of the Picasso Museum in Antibes and, between 2013 and 2015, curator of Art Basel Parcours. Ms Derieux is a member of several international artistic associations and has published catalogues and contributed texts to a number of publications and magazines. Centre Pompidou Foundation, founded in 1977, is an American organization, based in Los Angeles, California, with the hope of supporting the Centre Pompidou, in Paris, by encouraging donations and acquisitions of works of art. 450 works have already been acquired. Director of the Foundation, Bernard Blistène, talks positively of Derieux’s appointment saying, “We look forward to working with her on our initiatives to strengthen the acquisition and presentation of American art.” Executive Director Eliza Osborne adds, “Her expertise, curatorial vision, and extensive experience working with American artists and French institutions makes her uniquely positioned for this...

Marina Abramović makes short film for adidas

Performance artist Marina Abramović has made a film for adidas — celebrating the nature of teamwork. The short film, shot in black and white, reenacts Abramović’s Work/Relation performance, created with her former partner Ulay in 1978. In the same way, the scene depicts a group of people transporting bricks from one end of the room to the other. One group carries a bucket each, the second carries three buckets between two people, and the last group forms a human chain — each person passing one brick to another. In an interview with designbloom Abramović said: “One similarity between performance and sport that I wanted to highlight in this video is the importance of group collaboration […], resulting performance conjures the ethos of Adidas and the spirit of collaboration inherent to a global competition like the 2014 FIFA World Cup.” Rife with branding, the video includes 11 people (the number of a football team), all sporting matching adidas trainers. A cleaning woman suspected of stealing a valuable Benjamin Franklin bust

Pennsylvanie, le 4 septembre, Art Media Agency (AMA). According to the Daily Times, Lower Merion police are still looking for the Philadelphia woman they say is a suspect in a burglary at a township home last week, and for the extremely rare sculpted portrait of Benjamin Franklin that was reported stolen. A signed photograph of the german compositor Victor Herbert, one of his stick and his partitions, estimated for $80,000 have also vanished. A 44 years old woman the employees identified as Lawton, who had previously worked at the home (and had been fired) is the main suspect. Parrish Art Museum to open new expanded location on November

Southampton, New York, 28 August 2012, Art Media Agency (AMA). The Parrish Art Museum will close its current Jobs Lane location in Southampton, New York, on 4 September to prepare for the grand opening of its 34,000-square-foot facility on 10 November in Water Mill. Designed by Swiss architects Herzog and Meuron, the new building will triple the Museum’s current exhibition space allowing “the simultaneous presentation of loan exhibitions and installations drawn from the permanent collection”, as stated in the press release. Founded in 1897, the Museum has grown from a small village art gallery into an important art museum with a collection of more than 2,600 works by modern and contemporary artists including John Chamberlain, Chuck Close, Eric Fischl, April Gornik, Elizabeth Peyton, Dan Flavin, Roy Lichtenstein, Jackson Pollock, Esteban Vicente, Lee Krasner, and Willem de Kooning.
