Dresden’s State Art Collections acquire a work by Kirchner

Dresden’s State Art Collections have recently acquired a work by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (Straßenbild vor dem Friseurladen, Street Scene in Front of the Hair Salon (1926)). This work had been stolen by the Nazis in the same museum almost 80 years ago. This information comes from Catherine Hickley (The Art Newspaper), who states that the museum purchased the painting from Galerie Henze & Ketterer in Berne (Switzerland) for an unknown sum. German Expressionism at the Neue Gallery

New York, 8 February 2013, Art Media Agency (AMA). Until 22 April 2013, the Neue Gallery in New York presents an exhibition titled “German Expressionism 1900-1930: Masterpieces from the Neue Galerie Collection.” The Neue Gallery exhibits important works from German Expressionism. Primitive art and Modernism are two poles of this dessenting movement in German art that was formed at the beginning of the 20th century and came to an end in 1930s with Nazism accession. The period during which Expressionist artists created charged their works with contradictory emotions. The event in the Neue Gallery divided works in two sections: one that gathers works on paper, watercolours, wood engravings, issued from the collections of Paul Klee, Kandinsky, Kirchner; and another one devoted to portrait, pencil or ink sketches, including pieces by Dix, Grosz or Lovis Corinth.
