Ben Genocchio to run the next Armory Show

The Armory Show has revealed the 207 exhibitors at its next New York on 2 to 5 March. New arrivals include Jeffrey Deitch (New York), Dominique Lévy (New York, London, Geneva), Pace Gallery (New York, London, Beijing, Hong Kong, Paris, Palo Alto) and White Cube (London, Hong Kong). But this year, some big-name participants will be missing, including the David Zwirner Gallery (New York, London). Also off the list are the Goodman Gallery (Johannesburg, Cape Town), Alison Jacques Gallery (London) and Fine Arts Contemporary (Berlin). Ben Genocchio will have spent a full year preparing the 2017 edition, which was not the case for the preceding edition as he was recruited eleven months ago. Shanghai: 84 international galleries to show at ART021

ART021 – otherwise known as the Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair – will be launching its 4th edition from 10 to 13 November at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre. Eighty-four international galleries will be taking part, including the David Zwirner Gallery, which will be joining the event for the first time. The Estate of Sigmar Polke is now represented by David Zwirner

As of 9 October 2015, the David Zwirner gallery in New York will represent The Estate of Sigmar Polke. David Zwirner said, “being able to work with The Estate of Sigmar Polke is a dream come true. I had the great fortune of meeting Sigmar and witnessing firsthand the enormous influence he exerted on his generation and the ones that followed. His creativity and curiosity knew no bounds, and his ability to innovate across different media is unparalleled. We are very much looking forward to presenting and exploring the different facets of his work as we develop exhibitions with the Estate.” The gallery is organising its first exhibition of Polke’s work in collaboration with the Estate which will take place in New York in May 2016. Sigmar Polke, from Germany (1941-2010), was an artist of the postwar era. He is recognised for his multidisciplinary body of work including paintings, photographs, drawings, prints, sculptures, installations and films. The Estate of Sigmar Polke is intended as the central point of contact for all those who wish to engage with Sigmar Polke’s works, whether they are scholars or artists. 5th edition of ArtRio

The 5th edition of ArtRio will be held from 9-13 September 2015 at Pier Mauá in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The exhibition will be split into four programs- PANORAMA, VISTA and PRISMA, and will feature works from the following Brazilian galleries: Luisa Strina, Anita Schwart, and Fortes Vilaça, with international galleries White Cube and David Zwirner. Organised by Brenda Valansi, Elisangela Valadares and Luiz Calainho, this fifth edition will feature Arte 57 gallery, São Paulo; Almeida e Dale Galeria de Arte, São Paulo; and Athena Galeria de Arte, Rio de Janeiro. James Green joins David Zwirner Gallery in London

The London branch of David Zwirner Gallery has announced that James Green is to join its management team. James Green, the former manager of London-based gallery Stephen Friedman, left his post to join David Zwirner Gallery as its deputy director. Before arriving at Stephen Friedman, he was the manager of Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery, also in London. David Zwirner Gallery is a contemporary art gallery that was founded by David Zwirner. Based in New York since 1993 and in London since 2012, it is active in both the primary and secondary markets. In 2010, ArtReview ranked David Zwirner in fourth place in a list of the 100 most important people in the art world. In 2012, he was classed in second place by Forbes magazine in their list of “The most powerful American art traders”. The London branch of David Zwirner is located in the heart of Mayfair, next to Berkeley Square.
