The first Apple computer on auction

New York, 25 October 2012, Art Media Agency (AMA). While Apple is being criticised for its high prices, an Apple 1 – issued from the first computers realised by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak – might be auctioned over $90,000, says Business Insider. Not only was this computer, soon to be on auction, made by Steve Wozniak himself, but it was above all the first computer produced by the company. The two men sold 200 of them. Legend has it they had to sell their dearest belongings (a Volkswagen van and an HP-65 calculator) in order to fund their project. Auctions will begin at $90,000, but the seller hopes the computer will reach between $155,000 and $250,000. This price does not seem extravagant, for earlier this year another Apple 1 was sold for $374,500. However, it will obviously depend on the purchasers and collectors. An Apple 1, on auction earlier this month, could not be sold at all: the seller wanted at least $80,000, but bids did not go beyond $51,000. This auction is evidently intended for computer and Apple...

“Games People Play-Part 2” at Centre for Contemporary Art and the Natural World

Devon, 18 July 2012, Art Media Agency (AMA). From 6 October 2012 to 10 February 2013, the Centre for Contemporary Art and the Natural World will be displaying the second part of the “Games People Play” photography and video exhibition. The exhibition will bring together sixteen contemporary artists from twelve different countries using sporting imagery so as to comment on modern life and on the new generation of video games. Words such as territorial control, attachment to a team, cult of fitness and youth, prizes, avatars, computers, and virtual reality will be put in pride of place. Some artists explore the panel of emotions of the sport world while others divert the iconography of war games. The question asked by their works is the following one: how to transform the useless escape of video games into something to tackle the social and environmental challenges of real life? The participating video directors will be: Joseph DeLappe (Dead-in-iraq ), Cao Fei (Cosplayers), Harun Farocki (Serious Games 2: Three Dead ), Monika Oechsler (The Chase), Julie Henry (This Sporting Life and Ray of Light), Nives Widauer, Gustavo Artigas (Opening), Caitlin Parker (I wish I Was Roy Jones Jr), Spencer Tunick (Untitled), Axel Stockburger (Goldfarmer). The participating photographers will be: Newsha Tavakolian, Marin Parr, Hans van der Meer (Keeper Alone), Stefan Banz (The Muhammed Ali’s), Bleda Y Rosa (Untitled), Nicolai Howalt (Boxers). Set up in 2006, the Centre offers a programme of exhibitions, artistic projects, and educational activities shedding a new light on the social environmental urgency and on the contemporary scientific issues. Four exhibitions are organised each year along with educational workshops, lectures, and occasional multidisciplinary...
