Joana Vasconcelos’ return to Brazil

Brazilian gallery Casa Triângulo is showing the exhibition “Casarão” until 10 May, marking Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos’ return to the country – and to São Paulo. Four years after her major exhibition “Contaminação”, and ten years after her last show at Casa Triângulo, the artist is presenting a number of new works and series. An arrangement of earthenware animals by Portuguese artist Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro (1846-1905) — wrapped in the delicate lace which has become his trademark — stand alongside Vasconcelos’ installations Medusa and Agua Viva. The latter evoke the interiors of buildings and the human body, demonstrating the artist’s ongoing interest in the organic. Joana Vasconcelos was born in Paris in 1971. She lives and works in Portugal, where she has garnered a reputation as one of the most promising artists of her generation.
