Edgar Sarin wins the Bourse Révélations Emerige

As part of its exhibition “Une inconnue d’avance” from 4 to 20 November, curated by Gaël Charbau, the Bourse Révélations Emerige announced its winner on Thursday 3 November. Created in January 2014, the grant is an initiative conducted by the Emerige endowment fund in support of visual artists living in France, as yet unrepresented by any gallery. This unique Bourse — set up by Laurent Dumas — allows the winner to hold a first solo exhibition in an internationally renowned French gallery, and to receive financial support for his or her production of works. The third edition of the competition presented the works of twelve artists including two duos: Johanne Benaïnous and Elsa Parra, as well as Thomas Guillemet and Olivier Alexanian. The 3rd edition of the Bourse Révélations Emerges is opening for 2016 applications

The Emerige Endowment Fund is launching a third edition of the Bourse Révélations Emerige, thus pursuing its commitment to revealing a generation of young French talent. Nominees will be exhibited at collective exhibitions at the Villa Emerige. The Bourse Révélations Emerige, aimed at young artists, allows them to develop professional projects. The application period is open from 1 February to 31 March 2016. After the Galerie In Situ-Fabienne Leclerc in 2014 and the Galerie Georges-Philippe & Nathalie Vallois in 2015, the Galerie Michel Rein is now committing to the third edition of the Bourse Révélations Emerige. Alongside Angélique Aubert, director of sponsorship and artistic projects at Emerige, curator Gaël Charbau is renewing his collaboration with Emerige to support the winner and orchestrate the collective exhibition of the nominees at the Villa Emerige in November 2016. Every year, the Bourse Révélations Emerige offers an emerging French plastic artist at the start of his or her career (under 35 years) a springboard to the artistic world. Thanks to a €15,000 grant and professional support, the Bourse allows the winner to hold a solo exhibition in a renowned French gallery, and also produce works in a studio up to the financing of the exhibition itself. The name of the 2016 winner will be announced at an evening event marking the opening of the...

Creating ruin: an interview with Boris Chouvellon, Prix Emerige nominee

Boris Chouvellon is one of the 12 nominees for the Bourse Révélations Emerige. Originally from Saint-Etienne, he studied at the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux Arts de Marseille on the French Mediterranean coast and focuses his work on the concept of modern ruin and the periphary of urban spaces. AMA met with the artist during the Emerige exhibition, which closes 20 December. Could you first introduce yourself to the readers? Hello! I have been living and working in Paris for three years, after a brief spell at the Cité Internationale des Arts. Before that, I spent ten years in the Mediterranean where studying lead me from Nice to Marseille, during which I had exhibitions both in France and internationally. Seeing as you have already had several exhibitions, including a retrospective, what was the incentive for getting involved in the Emerige exhibition? First of all, there was a call for the Bourse Révélations Emerige. I already knew a little about Emerige’s acticvities, and I had seen this call for projects which I could tell was very serious by the partners, the members of the jury, and also by the works that I could see in the Emerige collection. Do you know the other artists with whom you will exhibiting at Emerige? Is there a type of synergy between your work and that of the other nominated artists? You have to consider that we only discovered one another in September when they announced the list of nominees for the Prix Emerige. We all met for the first time when we went to the villa Emerige to see how the hanging would work in terms of the dimensions of the works we were going to present; we really got to know each other during the hanging. Indeed there is a kind of synergy in the exhibition...
