“Fellows” return to college at the New York’s Wilkinson Gallery

New York, 5 September 2013, Art Media Agency, (AMA). An exhibition entitled “Fellows” opened on the 3 September and is to continue until 29 September 2013 at the Wilkinson Gallery, New York Academy of Art. It is to present paintings and sculptures created by former fellows of the academy Jonathan Beer, Aleah Chapin and Nicolas Holiber. The exhibition is to present conceptually-based figurative art, showcasing three of the infinite interpretations of the Academy’s education in practice. Jonathan Beer creates visually complex paintings which combine both cultural and personal references, whilst Aleah Chapin produces lovingly executed portraits of the women from her native town. Aleah Chapin winning BP PORTRAIT AWARD 2012

London, 20 June 2012, Art Media Agency (AMA). On Tuesday 19 June 2012, Aleah Chapin, the young 26 year old American painter, won the 2012  BP Portrait Award for her large-scale portrait of a middle-aged female nude. She was awarded £25,000. The portrait can be seen at the National Portrait Gallery from Thursday 21 June onwards. Based in Brooklyn, Aleah Chapin has just completed a master’s degree in paintings at the Art Academy of New York. She obtained her BFA (Bachelor of fine arts degree) at the Cornish College of the Arts and participated in a residence as part of the Leipzig International Artist Residency Program in Leipzig, Germany, in 2011. She has already received several prizes, including the Leslie T. Posey Foundation Scholarship, the Judith Kindler and Kyle Johnson Scholarship for Innovation in the Arts. She has also been nominated for the Joan Mitchell Foundation MFA Grant. The portrait which enabled her to win the prize shows a close friend of her family. It forms part of a series of nude portraits of women which Aleah has known throughout her life. The secondplace £8,000 award went to Ignacio Estudillo for El abuelo (Agustin Estudillo).
