The Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona is to host an exhibition entitled “La Pasión Según Carol Rama” tracing the seven decades of Carol Rama’s artistic career. Curated by Teresa Grandas and Beatriz Preciado, the exhibition is to run from 31 October 2014 until 22 February 2015.
Carola Rama, born in 1918, is a self-taught Italian artist whose work explores the subject of sexual identity, her early works challenging state censorship in fascist Italy.
The exhibition begins with her watercolours of the 1930s, through to the abstractions of the 1950s and her interpretations of informalism and the spatialism of the 1960s with bricolages and collage.
At the 50th Venice Biennale in 2003, Rama was presented with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement.
