Bonhams has announced two new important international appointments: Patrick Meade is to become CEO of the auction house’s US operations, while James Hendy is to take over as chief operating officer of US business.
Meade has been chief operating officer and senior vice president of Bonhams’ business development since 1999, and has also developed many of the new specialist departments in New York. He has been credited with significantly increasing the auction house’s American profits, and has orchestrated several of its San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York sales.
Meanwhile, Hendy is to relocate to the United States after working for the company’s Australian division. A press release from the auction house credits Hendy, as CEO of Bonhams Australia, with taking it “from a start-up to market dominance within three years”. He began his career at Bonhams in London, training as an English and Continental furniture specialist. He has acted as auctioneer for several London and Australian sales.
