New York, 7 November 2013, Art Media Agency (AMA).
This year’s edition of Performa 13, the performance art Biennale, is to offer 100 special events in forty different spaces across the city of New York. Performa 13, which takes place over the course of three weeks, began on 1 November 2013, and is due to finish on 24 November. The fair brings together a wide range of media, including music, dance, poetry, architecture and the culinary arts, featuring works by Rashid Johnson, Pedro Reyes and Joan Jonas.
The programme for 2013 is focused on Surrealism and its legacy in modern and contemporary art, poetry and artists’ engagement in politics. Performances place an emphasis on the voice, considering the disembodied voice, the voice as an instrument of desire and threat, sound and song, and the language of persuasion, seduction, and violence.
Performa 13 is the only Biennale dedicated to examining and exhibiting performance art across several different disciplines. New York, the performance capital, is considered a very suitable place to host the event. The show is to be presented in collaboration with more than fifty artistic institutions and fifty curators. The Biennale was founded by RoseLee Goldberg in 2004.
