Brussels, 23 July 2013, Art Media Agency (AMA).

On Tuesday 16 July 2013, 10 works were stolen from Brussel’s Van Buuren Museum, including paintings by Kees van Dogen and James Ensor. All of the works formed part of the Van Burens family collection.

The theft took place at the end of an afternoon, with the thieves gaining entry to the institution via a back door. The theft was carried out very quickly – in under two minutes – demonstrating that the criminals had been aware of the works’s locations before the crime. Although security alarms at the museum rang immediately, the thieves were able to escape the building before police arrived.
