Until 18 August 2013, Yale University is hosting an exhibition featuring pieces issued from the Waterbury collection. Entitled “Conversations with Wood: Selections from the Waterbury Collection”, the show features around 70 wooden sculptures from the collection of Ruth and David Waterbury’s, originally from Minneapolis.
The exhibition “reflects the evolution of the field over the past 25 years, with a focus on lathe and wood turning”. It gathers works by several artists, who produce pieces in a variety of sizes, and who have a significant influence on contemporary wooden sculpture.
Notable artists featured in the show include Robyn Horn, Todd Hoyer, Hayley Smith and Alan Stirt.
Patricia E.Kane, curator of the Friends of American Arts, stated that the exhibition offers “a rare opportunity to view a collection of this calibre, and to learn more about the recent history and innovation of contemporary wood artists”.
