Basel, 13 June 2013, Art Media Agency (AMA).
In parallel to Art Basel, from 10 to 15 June 2013, Volta 9 is spotlighting the work of young emerging artists in order to make connections between the young creation, curators and collectors.
Among the first sales reported, a Zurich-based collector purchased three abstract paintings by young artist William Bradley (between €4,000 and €10,000), represented by London gallery EB&Flow, and photographic portraits by Chris Aerfeldt aroused great interest.
New York-based gallery The Hole sold a work by Kadar Brock (€12,000) to a New York collector, while art dealer Kathy Grayson stressed the general interest for Holton Rowers’ Focus series. Regarding the red and white mural by South African artist Ed Young My Other Ride is Your Mom, installed outside the fair, Marelize Van Zyil from SMAC Art Gallery declared that there had been many compliments about it, and discussions about the role and importance of public art. Works by this artist seem to arouse particular interest, especially from German collectors.
