The Claremont Graduate University (CGU) announced today that Melody Kanschata has been appointed as the director of the Getty Leadership Institute (GLI), as of 1April 2013.

Melody Kanschat is an expert in abilities development in the field of artistic events. She was the Director of Operations at the LACMA since 2005, as well as the Manager of Operations in charge of an annual budget of $60m. While working at LACMA, she contributed to the museum’s expansion and gathered the budget of $150m devoted to the project of the museum’s transformation, and also launched a funding campaign that gathered $320m. This project allowed the museum to enlarge its exhibition space by 9,290sqm, namely the exhibition pavilion of Lynda and Stewart Resnick, the Broad Contemporary Art Museum and the 8-acre park devoted to sculpture.

Melody Kanschat joined forces with Peter F. Drucker, a CGU member, and the Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management in order to create a programme of executive management exploring the challenges awaiting the current directors of museum institutions. She wanted to concentrate on the development of new strategies, reinforcing already existing friendly relationships and establishing new associations and unions to allow the GLI programmes to prepare museum institutions professionals to face the future.
