Marseille, 24 January 2013, Art Media Agency (AMA).
From 12 January to 31 March 2013, the Panorama Tower part of La Friche de la Belle de Mai in Marseille will host an exhibition titled “Ici, ailleurs” (Here, there). The event will gather 39 contemporary artists coming from all Mediterranean countries.
Within a 2,400 sqm space, the exhibition spreads out in four sections: “Le voyage, l’exil, le déplacement” (Travel, exile, displacement) illustrating the nomadism of contemporary artists, “L’histoire au présent, le monde en question” (The history and the present, the world in question), concerning the issues of identity, citizenship, gender and relation to others, “La mémoire, la transmission” (Memory, transmission), where intimate and public space of artists is being explored and finally “Le voyage, l’histoire au présent, la mémoire” (Travel, history in the present, memory), a kind of overview of all previously broached subjects.
La Friche de la Belle de Mai is a unique space of that kind in Europe, an ancient tobacco factory converted into a space of creation and innovation, located next to the Saint-Charles train station in Marseille. On the occasion of Marseille Provence 2013 European Capital of Culture, the Panorama Tower was inaugurated as an exhibition space dedicated to contemporary art.
