Rennes, the 17 September 2012. Art Media Agency (AMA).
The third edition of the Ateliers de Rennes (Biennial of contemporary art) will take place in the Breton capital from the 15 September to the 9 December 2012.
The Ateliers de Rennes will be commissioned and directed by Anne Bonnin, after a call for projects given by the association Art Norac for the next two editions in 2012 and 2014.
The two main exhibitions of the 2012 edition will be held in two entirely new and prestigious places of the Breton capital : the FRAC Bretagne (Brittany regional fund of contemporary art) and the Newway Mabilais, former regional center of telecommunications, built by Louis Arretche between 1970 and 1975. In addition to these two places, the biennial will be held in various partner art places : La Criée, contemporary art center, 40mcube, the Centre Culturel Colombier, the Art et Essai gallery, the Cabinet du livre d’artiste and the Rennes Museum of Fine Arts .
This third edition, entitled « Les Prairies » (Prairies), develops the thematics of the pioneer : figure of conquest, hero of a history of modernity. The pioneer is an ambivalent figure, whose contradictory aspects, positive and negative, are to be unfold.
According to the Quotidien de l’art, from the first room, one can touch Anne Bonnin’s peculiar taste for minimalist art in works of great plastical qualities, such as the Grand chocolat (Great chocolate) by Katinka Bock, terra cotta print of a Rennes lycée’s pavement, made different from the original by the various firing stages.
