Several 19th century works recently acquired by the Musée des Avelines are now part of its collection.
These include the Autoportrait (1870) by Edouard Dantan and the Amoureux (1893) by Gaston La Touche whose works decorate the rooms in Saint-Cloud’s city hall.
The other acquisitions allude to Saint-Cloud, a town which attracted princes, kings, and emperors along with Parisians seeking nature and water sports. Among others, sixteen drawings by Pierre-Georges Jeanniot, which served to illustrate the reissue (1884) of Voyage de Saint-Cloud par mer et par terre by Louis-Balthazar Néel and Course d’avirons sur la Seine près de Saint-Cloud (1849) by Jean-Louis Petit.
Set up in 1988, the Musée des Avelines is located on a former property built in 1936 by wealthy pharmaceutical manufacturer and antique architecture lover Daniel Brunet. Its collections include pieces of furniture, paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, and posters.
