Billionaire offers art museum to Potsdam

The billionaire and patron of the arts Hasso Plattner plans on offering the city of Potsdam in Germany an art museum along with an entire collection.

The “Hasso Plattner Förderstiftung” (Hasso Plattner Foundation) will soon begin building this art museum in Potsdam’s historic city centre, according the German newspaper art das Kunstmagazin. Postdam’s mayor, Jann Jakobs, is happy with the offer. Until now, there were no art museums in Potsdam. Jakobs and Plattner are currently seeking an appropriate location for the museum.

Art collector Hasso Plattner is the founder and chairman of the supervisory board of SAP. In 1998, he offered 200 million euros to the town and its university to construct the information technology college “Hasso-Plattner-Institut”. He also donated 20 million euros to extend the Postdam Castle according to art das Kunstmagazin.
