Paris, 5 April 2012, Art Media Agency (AMA).

Ji-Yeon Sung will present a series of photographs at the Marie Cini gallery from 10 March to 21 April 2012, in an exhibition entitled “Acte Ordinaire” (“Ordinary Act”).

The photos are all portraits depicting people in their daily life. At first glance the photographs appear entirely banal. Quickly, however, the viewer realises that the situations are somehow strange.

In each picture the subject does not appear conscious of their surroundings, concentrating solely on the object that they carry or hold in their hands. This is the artistic intention of the photographer; a question of presence in photography. She arranges the composition of her photos to show that the everyday can also be unusual.

The series exhibited at the Marie Cini gallery was born during an artists’ residency in Brittany. Used to having her models come to her workshop, on this occasion Ji-Yeon Sung reversed the roles. She took herself to the homes of strangers in order to immortalise them.

Ji-Yeon Sung was born in Korea in 1976. She has lived and worked in Paris since 2000. She studied literature in Korea before coming to study photography in France.
