Paris, 27 March 2012, Art Media Agency (AMA).

Laetitia Hecht and ADDICT gallery are presenting John Crash in the exhibition “Study in Watercolours”, from 14 April to 2 June 2012.

John Crash, a pioneer of Street Art, was born in the Bronx in 1961. He has been producing work on canvas since 1978. His audacious first exhibition, “Graffiti Art Success”, allowed him to be taken seriously by the art world.

Thanks to his reputation, Crash has had the opportunity to rub shoulders with great artists (such as Jean-Micehl Basquiat and Keith harring at the Real Art Ways gallery) and to found the post-graffiti movement.

Since then, Crash has continued to vigorously create and display his works, which tend more and more towards extreme simplification, in exhibitions at the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris, the MoMA in New York and the Groningen Museum in the Netherlands.

Crash synthesises urban and pop culture, taking influence from comics, mangas, hip-hop, science-fiction, televised products, and graphic design. These images are combined to create dense pictures, using the technique of sampling.

The exhibition is centred around the artist’s preparatory work, which has seldom been displayed in France.

This is the fourth time that Crash has been displayed at the ADDICT gallery.
