Vancouver, 1 February 2012, Art Media Agency (AMA).

China Guardian Auctions Co. Limited, – the fourth largest auction house in the world-, is to open up a branch in Vancouver in January 2012. The Beijing based company was founded in 1993, and is taking advantage of the growing Chinese art market.

A large part of the Chinese immigrant population in Canada is believed to possess various works of art. Over the past 20 years, the market for Chinese art has seen a resurgence and the economic growth of the country has seen its thirst for its own traditional art grow. Due to this growth in demand coupled with the destruction of works of art during the communist revolution during the 1960s, traditional, authentic Chinese art is now very rare. Chinese companies and investors have tried to purchase various works of Chinese art that have been spread across the four corners of the Earth. The wave of Chinese immigration during the 1990s brought some of the country’s finest art to Vancouver.
