Lausanne, 27 January 2012, Art Media Agency (AMA).
Musée de l’Elysée will soon host an exhibition entitled “Behind the curtain – the photo booth aesthetic” from 17 February to 20 May 2012.
The exhibition will be dedicated to the influence that this particular machine has had upon art. The exhibition will not solely consist of photos, but will include paintings, lithographs and videos, in order to explore all of the aspects of the photo booth: the cabin, its automatic nature, the introspection it encourages, the layout of photos when they are printed and so on. Among the artists involved in the exhibition are Andy Warhol, Jurgen Klauke, Arnulf Rainer, Thomas Ruff, Yves Tanguy, Cindy Sherman, Tomoko Sawada and Gillian Wearing.
Visitors will have the opportunity to photograph themselves using two genuine 1930s photo booths, loaned to the exhibition by 312 photo booth of Chicago. One will be situated in the Élise Café, and the other in Théâtre de Vidy.
