On 13 of January, María Teresa Lizaranzu Perinat was appointed Director General of Cultural Policy and Reading by the Spanish Ministry of Culture, Education and Sport.
Born in Madrid in 1968, María Teresa Lizaranzu Perinat studied law before joining the diplomatic service in 1997. She was first posted to the Spanish Embassy in Helsinki before becoming consul-general in Jerusalem. In 2006, she became an advisor at the Spanish Embassy in Berlin and from August 2011 she was named as assistant director general for North Africa within the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
She will assume the responsibilities of Santos Castro, who up until now had been the Cultural Industries director, and Rogelio Blanco, director of reading, archives and libraries.
