Dordogne, 16 June 2011, Art Media Agency (AMA).
A painting by Jean Honoré Fragonard has recently been authenticated during restoration work at the Château de Hautefort in Dordogne, central France.
According to restorer Claudine Pasticos, the style of the piece is typical of Fragonard. The painting is part of David-David Weill’s collection, who bought it from a Fragonard collector, as reported in French daily paper Le Parisien.
If the authenticity of the work is confirmed, it will be worth 2 M€.
No signature appears on the painting, but the restorer, who examined it in detail, declares the letter “F” is hidden under the paint.
