Oklahoma City Museum of Art will be the only North American venue next year for a massive exhibition of works by some of the most influential artists of the last century opening on 18 June and closing on 18 September 2016.
“Matisse in His Time: Masterworks of Modernism from the Centre Pompidou, Paris” will bring more than 100 works of art from France to the Oklahoma City Museum of Art next summer. The exhibit includes nearly 50 paintings, sculptures and works on paper by celebrated artist Henri Matisse, along with masterworks by Pablo Picasso, Juan Gris, Georges Braque, André Derain, Fernand Léger and Amadeo Modigliani. “To see the grand sweep of modernism in one exhibition is an exceptional opportunity. The artistic significance of ‘Matisse in His Time’ is unparalleled, and visitors will see famous masterworks by the 20th century’s most accomplished artists,” said E. Michael Whittington, President and CEO of the OKC Museum of Art.
“This is the first time that a lot of the works in this exhibition will be travelling outside of Europe … and we’re going to be the only venue outside of Europe to host it. This is the only time they’ll be in the United States,” Anderson said.
