The Cinémathèque Française is hosting the exhibition “Stanley Kubrick: from photography to cinema” until 23 July 2011.
Before being a film-maker, Kubrick was a photographer. He received his first camera in 1928, at the age of 13: a Graffex with a 35 mm lens. At the age of 17, he started making photographic narratives for a magazine. They depicted “key moments”, in the manner of Bresson, in illustrated stories. Later, he produced short documentaries and kicked off his career for real.
The exhibition features every one of Stanley Kubrick’s films in chronological order, via his own photos accompanied with videos.
