The Espace Louis Vuitton in Munich is to present, from 24 April until 8 August 2015, a solo exhibition of the post-conceptual American artist Cory Arcangel entitled “Be the first of your friends”.
The exhibition brings together new works by Arcangel in addition to a selection of works from the beginning of his career, rearranged by the artist especially for the event. “Be the first of your friends” explores the relationship between digital technology and pop culture, reusing existing contemporary materials and sources of information such as the internet and YouTube to create new works of art. The exhibition gives a glimpse into Facebook culture, showing the artists vision of digital culture through the exhibition of pieces whose production is facilitated by pirated and open software. The new works on display include Quick Office (2015) and Super Mario Clouds (2002 -), a modified version of the video game Super Mario Bros, as well as some pieces from the Lakes (2013-) series, shots of images projected onto flat screens for which he used an old Java application.
Cory Arcangel was born in Buffalo in the state of New York, the United States, and currently lives and works in Brooklyn. He works with a large range of media: drawing, composition, video (edited), performance, and the Internet.
