The eighth edition of the Göteborg International Biennal for Contemporary Art is to take place from 12 September until 22 November 2015 at Röda Sten Konsthall venue in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The theme of the 2015 edition has been announced as “A story within a story…”, which explores and challenges the idea of history-making, and aims to look at the way in which systems of power have silenced certain groups and minorities in their writing of history. On display will be artists who interfere with this ‘official’ version of history, and who seek to expand the readings of contemporary history. History is to be looked at as a radical act, with a focus on socially engaged works which question the notion of collective memory and look at events from transnational and transhistorical perspectives.

GIBCA is a leading Nordic art biennial which was created by the Gothenburg City Cultural Committee in 2001. It is directed by Mia Christersdotter Norman, and its artistic directors are Stina Edblom and Aukje Lepoutre Ravn.
